Dropped off the face of the earth

Yep. I've somehow lost nearly 2 weeks of my life. For about a week, I succumbed to the sickness that has surrounded me and was pretty miserable. (My co-worker ended up with bronchitis and is on antiobiotics.) I was finally starting to feel good this weekend, but I think I pushed it and now I'm back to a general malaise. Blech!! I guess I should be grateful that it's just sinus problems and headache with a lingering cough, but I'm really tired of it and want it over so I can ENJOY my jam packed life.

It's been very busy at work and last week had a full moon, my boss was gone for 3 days, AND we had a Friday the 13th, so it was crazier than usual. (One of these times I'm going to make a list of all the crazy calls I field: Here's a couple I remember: "I think I have a warrant from 10 years ago, and so how do I check to see if it's there or not?" "How much money do I owe on my traffic ticket and when can I get my license back after I pay it?" "Can you tell me if my trial that is set for next September is going to go?" "I want to get married next Thursday, can I arrange a judge for 11:20?" or my personal favorite.... "My husband was arrested this morning at 10:29. Can you tell me when he'll get out?" ) Like I said - craziness, but I kinda enjoy them so I am very nice and transfer them to whatever department can help them if I don't know the answer. So far I've got a job, but I think the county is gearing up for some serious ugliness this Summer. Over and over, all I hear is that this year's state budget process is "unprecendented". They have NEVER had anything like it and that social services are going to take a 20 year leap into the past. The widespread elimination of funding and programs is pretty daunting and somewhat alarming. Hopefully, the stimulus package the feds are sending to the states will staunch even a little of the bloodshed that is eminent. More on that later, I'm just keeping my head down, nose to the grindstone and crossing my fingers that the state funding that contributes to my job remains.

Let's see...What else has been going on? Here's a super brief synopsis:

C had his 10th birthday & friend party, scouts, and a couple wrestling matches (2 more in the next 2 days). B had a major part in their recent choir concert. (I'll try and post some video or it.) M has been very busy socially which I'm very glad and have encouraged. For the last year or two she wasn't doing much - just hanging out being a homebody, now it seems like she is "very much in demand". I think she has spent the night at a girlfriends' house at least 1 night for the last 4 weekends. She has also been going to the high school boys and girls' basketball games to help keep score. (She sits down right in front with the announcer and helps keep stats on the opposing team.)

I have some how found some time to read - one way I've made my self stay down and relax so that I could get better and not hack up a lung. I finally got the chance to read the Twilight series. It was surprisingly good and I really enjoyed them. It was very imaginatively, action packed and were a fast read. (Yes, I read all 4 books in 4.5 days, but I did to work full time for 3 of those days, but was able to read at lunch.)

That's all for now folks - I'm tired and have a headache. (My pillow calls to me.)

Just A Bunch of Sickos

My life seems to be filled with contant sickness. I'm surrounded by "sickos" at work (coworkers, bosses and clients) and my kiddos keep passing the crud around and reinfecting each other. After wading through all that "junk" seemingly everywhere I go, I finally succumbed last week to the sickness and ending up missing two days of work, but I really wasn't feeling good all week. I had sick kids home as well so I really didn't get all the rest I needed. I'm doing ok, but have been taking it easy, going to bed early each night and taking extra vitamin C and water. (My kids are pretty much in the same boat.) I think we might be turning the corner if I can keep it up for another couple days. So as soon as I'm done here, I'm hitting the hay.

Luckily, it's just the common cold / upper respitatory crud we're battling. I was horrified to read last week that recently pediatricians have been reporting up to 30% of all ear infections and sore throats are now MRSA. That is so scary!!!! (MRSA is the drug resistant "super bug".) Like I said....SCARY!!!
